FAQ's

What are Top labels used for?

Top labels help handlers, carriers and warehouse staff know which side of a package or container should be up during storage and transport. If an item is stored or shipped down it can get damaged, spill its contents or stop working. A Top label makes sure there is no confusion about the way to handle the package.

Which types of shipments commonly need Top labels?

Any package that has contents that're sensitive to being upside down. This includes bottles and containers with liquid that could leak if flipped, electronics that should not be stored in a position, fragile items in foam packaging that is meant to protect from a certain direction and equipment that has internal parts that might move or get hurt if the box is turned over.

Where on the package should Top labels go?

Top labels should be placed on all four sides of the package and on the surface. This way the label can be seen no matter which side a handler looks at first. A label on one side might be missed when boxes are stacked and turned during transport.

Are there any shipping regulations that require labels?

For some kinds of goods, carrier rules and specific laws might say that orientation labels are needed. For shipments, Top labels are not always required by law but they are a good idea, especially for fragile items or items with liquid inside.

Do these labels last through the shipping process?

Yes. The waterproof vinyl stays on. It is easy to read even after handling, stacking, moisture, and the rough treatment that packages go through from the start to the end of their trip.

Are pictogram-based labels better than text-only ones?

Pictograms that show an arrow pointing up can be understood by anyone no matter what language they speak. They are easier to read than text, especially in busy places like warehouses and shipping centers. Both types of labels are available in the collection.
