Color Coding Labels

Color coding labels are one of the ways to get your space organized. Each color means something; this shelf is for certain items, with assorted bins for different items, tracking shipments, and performing inspections. Once your team learns what each color means, this saves a lot of time in a warehouse or facility.

We have two kinds of labels: dot labels that are shaped like circles and rectangle labels. The dot labels are small. Work well on little things like bins, folders, and files. The rectangle labels are a bit bigger. Better for things that need to be seen from far away, like big containers or shelves. Both kinds of labels come in the same colors so you can use them together to create a better system.

We have 12 colors for our labels: red, purple, white, black, light blue, royal blue, kelly green, fluorescent yellow, fluorescent red, fluorescent green, fluorescent pink and fluorescent orange. The fluorescent colors are really bright and easy to see in dim light or busy environments.

You should use these labels when you need something to really stand out. In a warehouse with high shelves, fluorescent labels can be seen from far away even when regular colors might be hard to see. They are also good for indicating things on priority because the fluorescent colors are harder to ignore.

Our labels work best on surfaces that are clean and smooth. They stick well to plastic bins, cardboard boxes, metal shelves, file folders, binders, glass and laminated surfaces. If a surface is rough, dusty or textured, the label might not stick well.

That is what most people do. There is no meaning to any of the colors, so you can use them to mean whatever you want. For example, red might mean "broken" in one place but "priority" in another.

Are these labels waterproof?Yes, they are. The material they are made of is waterproof, protecting the label from falling or the color running. They work well in storage, humid areas and anywhere that might get wet during normal use.

To remove a label, peel it off slowly from one corner. On surfaces like plastic or painted metal the label should come off cleanly. On cardboard the paper might tear a little, so it is an idea to test one first if you think you will need to remove and reapply the labels a lot.
