FAQ's
When should a CAUTION label be used of DANGER or WARNING?
A CAUTION label is the choice when the hazard could cause minor to moderate injury but the risk of a severe or fatal outcome is low under normal circumstances. Slippery floors, pinch points that could trap a finger mild electrical shock risks and ergonomic hazards around equipment are CAUTION-level situations.
Does using CAUTION mean the hazard is not worth worrying about?
Not at all. A CAUTION label still identifies a hazard that needs to be communicated. The signal word tells workers the severity level so they can respond appropriately not whether to pay attention all. Ignoring a CAUTION can still result in injury.
What are the common uses for CAUTION labels in a facility?
Slippery surface warnings, hot surface alerts on equipment that gets warm but not dangerously hot pinch point notices on low-risk machinery, forklift speed reminders and general housekeeping rules that relate to safety are all applications.
What standard governs label design?
ANSI Z535 sets the format for labels. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.145 covers accident-prevention signs and tags.
Can CAUTION labels be used alongside DANGER or WARNING labels on the piece of equipment?
Yes. It is common. A single machine might have a DANGER label at a high-risk point and a CAUTION label near a severe hazard elsewhere, on the same unit. Each label addresses the hazard at its specific location.
Are these labels waterproof?
Yes. The vinyl material handles moisture, humidity, and mild industrial conditions without peeling or fading.
